Title: Queen's Park this morning
Post by: BC on May 09, 2011, 06:03:25 PM
Queen's Park seems to be behind schedule this spring but was fairly birdy this morning. Seven warbler species included American Redstart, Black-throated Blue, Black-throated Green, Black-and-white, Palm, Yellow-rumped and Nashville. Other goodies were Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Baltimore Oriole and a slightly late Brown Creeper. Chimney Swifts were overhead.
I just enjoyed reading today's post about Trinity-Bellwoods Park. I've been keeping track of my occasional spring visits to Queen's Park for three years and have had a total of 16 warbler species. The male Common Yellowthroat I saw last week was number sixteen.

I spent an hour at Queen's Park this morning. It was my first visit since last Monday and I was wondering if the spectacular recent fallout had found the Park. Despite poor viewing conditions (rainy and overcast) and very noisy crews dismantling tents and portapotties, I found nine species of warblers and a few other migrants.
• American Redstart
• Northern Parula
• Magnolia Warbler
• Cape May Warbler
• Black-and-white Warbler
• Palm Warbler
• Yellow-rumped Warbler
• Chestnut-sided Warbler
• Yellow Warbler
• Swainson's Thrush
• White-crowned Sparrow
• Baltimore Oriole
• Red-breasted Nuthatch
