Title: Coyote and pup at Tommy Thompson Park entrance
Post by: Andre on May 17, 2011, 09:20:14 PM
Hi Everyone,
I was really surprised to see a female coyote with a pup running around the entrance to the park this evening at around 5.30PM. The mother coyote seemed to be frantically trying to get the pup to budge, as the pup just wanted to sit by the grass near the bird sighting board. Then the pup finally spotted me and took off after its mom. The female seemed to have a radio collar on it, so I guess its a known coyote in the area. They headed off in the direction of the lakeside trail along the spine. Still awesome to see coyotes right in the city during broad daylight!

I think you are right frozenice, that must have been the male you spotted. I've seen that same big one in early April, but in the wet woods. It had a beautiful thick coat, whereas this female seemed pretty raggedy. But still a neat sighting!
