Title: Whimbrel - Whitby shoreline
Post by: Bluffs Birder on May 23, 2011, 08:21:34 PM
Hi all,

Whitby Harbour:
42 Whimbrel were observed circling low over the mouth of Whitby Harbour today at 2:50 PM before continuing their journey westward along the north shore of Lake Ontario.  A big thank you goes to Rayfield Pye for letting us know there were shorebirds present at this location.  On the rocks at the very tip of the breakwall were Dunlin and Ruddy Turnstones.  Also flying above us were 3 very noisy Killdeer.

Cranberry Marsh:
Low out over the lake, 9 Whimbrel were observed at 4:20 PM flying westward fairly close to the shore.

Whitby Harbour is located south of the intersection of Victoria Street W & Brock Street S in Whitby.
Cranberry Marsh is located at the south end of Halls Road in Whitby.
