Title: Herps, Butterflies etc. at Erindale and Riverwood Park
Post by: Reuven_M on May 26, 2011, 05:23:12 PM
Bird numbers are dropping, so I spent most of today looking for other stuff. Highlights were:

1 northern watersnake -didn't know there were any around, I could tell where he was in the reeds by where the frogs were panicking and leaping out.
2 garter snakes
2 painted turtles
7+ green frong
many tadpoles (probably toad)

10+ cabbage white
9 butterflies that I believe are wild indigo duskywings - but all the duskywings seem pretty similar in the book. They were together at the edge of an open field bordering on open woods, and didn't seem to be attracted to any particular plant. Is my ID likely correct?

a little swarm of eight-spotted forester moths

1 common whitetail dragonfly (early?)

1 cottontail

Cool...I'd say you had great outing.  Did you get any photos of the duskwings?
