Title: Cedar Waxwings

Not quite in my backyard, but...at least a dozen cedar waxwings were hanging out in my neighbour's tree gulping down juniper berries this afternoon in Leslieville.  They were quite intent on their feast as we were able to get quite close to observe them. What a stunning bird!

I have seen many groups of 20 or more Waxwings in the last two weeks.

At Downsview,, in Milton and up in Tiny Township, they seem to be everywhere

We saw about a dozen in front of our home a few snowy Marches ago and could not believe my eyes. Thought it was a pastel painting.

My daughter spotted a Cedar Waxwing in a bush in our front yard this morning.  It was eating berries.  We have never seen one around here before.  We are by Earl Bales Park.  Does anybody know what they prefer to eat?

Our neighbor used to have a huge Mulberry Tree in his backyard that also hung in our backyard and every year loads of birds including Cedar Waxings would feast on the berries. The people renting the house didn't like the trees in the backyard and the landlord cut them down, including the Mulberry. I miss that tree and the birds that use to visit it.  :(

Since that time Rob has started planting bushes and made a "bird garden" to compliment our many feeders, but no Cedar Waxwings yet.

I've heard waxwings at the Leslieville Farmers Market (Queen & Coxwell) every weekend.  Today, saw a pair of flitting back and forth to a tree with nesting material in their beaks.  They were building a nest in a tree right beside one of the merchant's stands.  Didn't seem to mind all the people milling about.  Hope to see some baby waxwings in the coming weeks!
