Title: Ruby throated Humming bird
Post by: Napper on May 30, 2011, 01:25:24 PM
Hey

Its not stunning news by any means,   I spotted a Ruby Throat yesterday in our yard for the first time this year.

A Blue Jay was collecting nesting material from a fence mounted hanging basket.

p.s. anybody seen any Eastern Kingbirds yet?

We were up in Carden a couple weeks back, doing the trek up Wylie Road, and there were Kingbirds a plenty along the stretch.

I have seen a couple pairs much closer to home here in the west end of Toronto too.

Cool re: Hummingbird.  We have our feeder out but haven't seen one.  We normally have a few sightings over the summer.  Just got to be out there to see it.  I am going to be growing some tobacco plants this summer, which grow up around 15ft tall, have little pink flowers at the top, and we had a few Hummingbirds the last time I grew time a few summers back.  They impress the neighbours as it sure looks like a freakin' beanstalk growing straight up.

Smoley Hokes  15 feet tall?  I primed tobacco down near Turkey Point when I was in High School many years ago. Them plants weren't 15 feet tall

My dad has a bucket full of tobacco seeds I'm thinking I should maybe grow a few cigars.

Hey Guys,

I've had a steady stream of Hummers in my yard since May 10th.
Kingbirds have been back full time at my work...Ford Drive just North of RoyalWindsor, in South Oakville....for 2 1/2 weeks now.
