Hello!
What's wrong with spending time shooting ring-billed gulls as they fly around and dive for silvery fish? Please don't answer my question, even though it wasn't entirely rhetorical. Folks, the warblers are gone and I couldn't be happier; they were getting on my nerves anyhow. When they come back in September I'll have forgiven them, but they'll look so different...
I hope all is well with you birdaunts and birduncles...

you,re right david.
i,ve got a bunch ready to process of immature gulls(like the colours better),with herring,which they dove for,and caught themselves.quite fun to watch them catching their own food for a change. LOL

this comment is directed at Denis, but I'm sharing it with the rest of you in hopes of opening up a discussion. Anyhow, I've never met Denis but in a dream last night I did. I was on a little bridge in the middle of a forest, shooting skunks with a short lens. A moustachioed man approached; his moustache was WEIRD but I didn't care. "Hello, Dennis," I said, "the skunks are really booming." "No no, it's DENIS," the man said, "with one N only." I wanted to tell him: "Yeah, okay, the skunks don't know the difference," but all of a sudden the skunks went crazy and sprayed clouds of stink all around us. Denis and I exchanged a knowing glance and started firing off as many frames per second as possible. Denis was shooting close-ups and I was going for the wide angle. Pretty soon we were covered in stink and the skunks were going crazier than ever...
As I said, I reveal this dark but true dream in hopes of opening up a discussion. And the question is this: Should I commit myself to a lunatic asylum posthaste? Joking! The question is this: do you folks dream of birds and photographing birds, as I do? Don't know what the skunks signify, I'd have to consult my Freud. Do I stink photographically? Do the skunks symbolize the fireants that infest most of my favorite photographic locations? Is my beloved hobby in actuality fraught with peril? Or is the dream a fable with the following moral: Life can be adventurous, but pretty stinky?
Anyhow! Denis! Post your gull pics and make us happy!

yes i do dream of phorographing birds ocassionally,and wake up with my boots on,and camera in hand( kidding about the boots).for me it,s still a very strong passion.thank god there are no skunks in my dreams.spent 3 hours this morning after working nights, shooting cliff swallows.i wanted a dorsal shot.well i got 1 shot,out of probably 100,that i like.is it a passion,or maybe an obsession? better save me one of those padded rooms,david,as i,m sure to join you,unless they find a cure.

The only question I see to raise here is why was Denis in your dream.

Denis was in my dream because his photographs are beautiful, and he too is obsessed with photographing birds. When we eventually have our catbird contest, yes yes, that's when they're going to lock us up for good...Meghan, you can come visit us...if you bring us smokes we can trade them for Peterson guides...bird books are STRICTLY prohibited at all lock-up joints...
