Title: Giant Swallowtail Butterfly
Post by: TammyLee on June 02, 2011, 10:11:35 PM
Hi everyone, look what wonderful thing I saw this evening! I'm so glad my dog has to go out regularly - gets me outside for little adventures. I never know what's going to happen around here (our cottage is on the edge of the woods). Seems like human nature to think everything will be as usual, then something like a Giant Swallowtail happens by - thank God for cameras! When I saw it land, there was an illusion that it was two butterflies. I've learned it's the biggest butterfly in NA, besides the female Tiger Swallowtail & the Thoas Swallowtail. It did seem a fair size. Not a great shot as it only briefly landed & I wasn't that close, but what a privilege.

Thanks for being there to share it with!

Thanks, Jo-Anne! It was super-bright out there at the time with the west sun, so the colour's a bit off. I think I've seen the same one or a few more today. Such a beautiful species.
