Last night, just after I retired to sleep at 11:45 PM, I thought I heard the distinctive call of a Great Horned Owl. I thought I was dreaming. Sure enough, a short while later another call came. This time, my wife heard it too. For about ten minutes, the calls seems to be coming closer and closer. Finally, it let out a screech and I didn't hear from it again. I live in the Northeast cornerof Toronto, very close to Rouge Park, Staines and Steeles area. Right behind my place is a small woodlot, I heard is part of Rouge Park. I would be amazed if the bird returns and makes the woods its home.

Very nice bird Gary! Lets hope it stays in the Rouge! Keep us updated! Cheers Terry

A nice bird to hear. Great Horned Owls are actually fairly common in the Rouge Valley, but nice to encounter in any case.

the GHO came back again this morning! I happen to be awake at 4:30 AM and heard its call. I think he is hunting because its call comes and goes and sounds like he is moving around. I would love to catch a glimpse of it.....the only place I actually saw a GHO was at Thickson Woods last year.

I'm such a nerd! We've seen him too.
I'd be over the moon to be hearing what your hearing on a regular basis. :D
