Title: Injured Red-necked Grebe at Col Sam w/ Picture

While checking out Col Sam this morning, we noticed a Red-necked Grebe in the harbour that came up very close that looked like it had an injured wing. It was able to catch a few fish while we were watching, but it didn't seem to be able to dive. When it tried to flap it's wings, the left one was clearly not extending fully.

I don't know if there's anything that can be done, but if it survives, it'll likely stick around the area for a while.

Here you can clearly see the broken wing it's left. Perhaps caused by impact with a boat? As you can also see from the picture, it's able to catch some food.

I observed this bird on Saturday, and called the Toronto Wildlife Centre on my mobile. They're planning to capture it and get it into rehab sometime this week.

They had been aware of it for a couple of days, and had discussed it with a Sam Smith regular, who indicated that it had been in the harbour for some time. It seems otherwise healthy and they're confident that it will survive. They also told me that it has been observed making shallow dives, though it didn't attempt to do so in the time that I spent watching it.
