While I was walking on a beach in Nfld, a couple weeks ago, a large bird
swooped down in front of me and took off again, I was able to get a quick shot
of it, but i'm not sure what it was, some kind off hawk. Any Guesses?

Here's 3 for bald eagle - nice grab! I would love to hear where you went in Nfld. If you wouldn't mind hitting the high notes in a pm some day, I would appreciate it. I go to Cape Breton every summer, but haven't made it to Nfld. It's high on my list.

Moira,
I've done plenty of birding in NL. [9 or 10 visits] and would be happy to answer any questions you have.
