Summer Tanager??? On Friday I saw a bird larger than a warbler singing from the very top of my neighbour's spruce tree. It was solid green back and head and a light coloured beak. It's breast and throat were s dullish, solid yellow. No wing bars or other markings. The only bird that answered this description in my Peterson was the female summer tanager. I'm not good at remembering songs that don't have words, but it had a two-note thing and a multi-noted variation. A little thinner and purer than the calls I've since found on the web. It stayed for a few minutes, turning several times so that my wife and I could get a decent look at it. Wish I'd been smart enough to get my camcorder going...
