I love trying to catch these beautiful little birds in action; it's so addictive. Although the challenge is in trying to get a good flight shot, I do really like static shots as well.

Beautifully done! I was headed to Rosetta McClean Gardens today, took a wrong turn, headed east and ended up at the Guild Inn (looking for butterflies). Except for a few monarchs it was very quiet but I was standing beside the buddlea when a female hummer arrived at the highest flowers and started feeding about 5 feet from me! So Howie did you get any pictures? No, I left the 50D/100-400mm combo in the trunk, intending to get it if anything interesting was happening - what a dork!
My last backyard hummer sighting was around sunrise on Sept 6. I still have a little nectar so I'll leave the feeder up until it dries up. Really miss the little guys already, certainly something to look forward to during a long cold winter!
