Thank you, folks! Who's got a better neck than a great blue heron? Nobody I know...

It is a great capture, but I have a bit of a dumb question, how do you know the heron is a juvie? I can't seem to tell the difference ...and..is there a difference between male and females? or are they so small we don't notice?
-
Irene, that isn't a dumb question at all. The adult has some lovely plumes and also a white cap. It's a larger bird as well...for example, the picture you recently posted is of an adult...no real way to tell the sexes apart other than perhaps some kind of creepy inspection?

Thanks Jack, yeah the one I posted did have a little plume thingy at the back of his head, maybe just the males have the plume thing?..hmmm
