Title: Leslie spit monarchs

Late Sunday afternoon my son and I returned to area where we found the monarch roosts last year. There were several very small clusters (3 or 4 butterflies) scattered throughout the trees and one which contained about 15 monarchs. We were kind of disappointed that the numbers didn't increase towards sunset but they were in a good spot so I managed to get some good pictures and videos.

Just one comment - if the orb weaving(?) spiders on the spit were man eaters they would NEVER find my body; I've never walked through so many webs as I did yesterday trying to get to the viewing spots!

The only other butterfly we saw was a viceroy.

I noticed a distinct lack of Monarchs around the waterfront as well.  I think there were more around a few weeks ago.  I don't know if I missed the main migration, if it's still to come, or if they had a bad year.

There were Monarchs at Rosetta McClain gardens east of the spit today.  Not huge numbers but still very noticeable.  I'd say there were moving east to west along the bluffs some quite high.  Cheers Terry
