Title: 5000+ Bluejays migrating and Monarchs
Post by: Whittam on September 22, 2011, 08:06:45 PM
Bluejays were on the move today through Rosetta McClain Gardens.  5000+ moving east to west along the bluffs.  Also counted 40-45 per minute Monarchs migrating all day.  Close to 2400+ per hour heading to Mexico!  Cheers Terry

Wow, that's a lot of monarchs! I was on the spit late Thursday afternoon and the monarchs started roosting after 5:30pm, in the same area we (my son and I) saw them last year. Last weekend we saw a few small clusters; this evening there were a few hundred in at least two separate roosts. If tomorrows weather isn't suitable for flying it could be a really great weekend for seeing roosts on the spit.
