This heron was poised to share his lunch with me, but a heron's heart is fickle and disloyal.
I'll never smile again...

How could one not adore a bird such as this? Once I was watching him (or her?) and a jogger jogged past, Australian was she, and in same accent remarked: "Funny looking bird, isn't it?" I offered back: "Look who's talking!" but by then she was out of earshot. Anyhow, these birds look as though they wear TIGHTS, and don't get me started on those miraculous transparent eyelids of theirs. Called what? Some kind of membrane but I can never remember? I would love to observe an adult GBH for as long, but by nature they are typically more skittish and I don't blame them.
