Title: Snake ID if anyone can assist
Post by: Rob'in'To on October 10, 2011, 02:53:06 PM
Found this snake in my walk this morning.  He was about 16" and really thin.  I know less about snakes than I do about non-breeding Warblers with yellow chests/bellies.  Thanks!

Cool!  Thanks Mike!  I tried a Google search and it was mind boggling.

nice snake shot Rob... I just found one today at Col Sam park and mine was quite brown. These little guys don't get much bigger than the one you found usually 8-10" and are quite tame if pickup

I seldom see snakes in my travels.  I heard this guy before seeing him as he slithered through the crusted leaves along the path.  After a couple shots, I moved him off the path, as the next person walking might not have seen/heard or been as considerate.

It's always cool to find new critters in our travels, eh.

I saw one of these this weekend too. Never seen one before. I guess the warm weather brings them out.

I think right now they are heading to their hibernacula - they are pretty easy to find in the summer by flipping stuff over, but I've only seen one moving around once other than late fall.

best spot for snakes?

the NSWO pines at the spit.
go there in early spring and the grass is moving around your feet.
