Hi All,
I did a quick early morning outing to the west side of the base of the Leslie Street Spit. The "wet woods" were hopping with warbler song, where I heard and saw 15 species of warblers in UNDER 1 HOUR!! Not too shabby, nothing really out of the ordinary but still, good to see so many species in such a short time.
The warblers were as follows:
Northern Parula (1 male singing an alternate song just as I was leaving)
Northern Waterthrush (1 heard, not seen)
Ovenbird (1 heard, not seen)
Magnolia - 3
Palm - 1
Yellow-rumped - 10+
Yellow - 8
Black-throated Blue - 2
Black-throated Green - 3
Blackburnian - 1
Black-and-white - 2
Tennessee - 1
Nashville - 3
Chestnut-sided - 2
Wilson's - (1 heard, not seen)
Also, were lots (15+) of Least Flycatchers "chee-bek" ing
2 Great Crested Flycatchers
2 Rose-breasted Grosbeaks
1 Ruby-throated Hummingbird
8 Baltimore Orioles
2 Blue-gray Gnatcatchers
3 Gray Catbirds
1 Swainson's Thrush
1 Lincoln's Sparrow
1 Eastern Meadowlark - singing like crazy!
All in all, a great morning to be out before the drudgery of work!
