Title: flocks of scaup
Post by: Fireweed on November 25, 2011, 01:11:07 PM
Saw huge flock of scaup down at Long Branch Park.  I am not so good at identifying them, but I am pretty sure I saw lesser scaup.  Also some other ducks mixed in but I didn't have time to ID them (baby was getting bored).
If anyone sees the flock I would be interested in more identifications.

I didn't see the flock, but at this time of year, the majority will usually be Greaters.  With patience and luck, you can often pick out a few Lessers as well.  You'll usually find some Redheads mixed in those flocks as well.

Thanks for your reply.  I went back today hoping to see them again, but they had moved on.  I think there were some redheads too, but I wasn't sure.
