Title: 'Tis The Season....
Post by: Axeman on May 20, 2007, 05:48:29 AM
Just weighing in on biting insect repellants....right now the black flies up at our place are driving me crazy...and my neapolitan mastiff has lost 30 lbs.

We purchased a unit called the mosquito magnet a few years ago and place it on our deck...it seems to work for the deck.

Skin So Soft...on my 3 year old daughter, it works....on me, nope.

The only thing I have found that works is Deet... the higher the percentage the better it works.   However deet is a neurotoxin so be careful not to get any in your mouth in significant qualities.... even with a tiny taste you can feel the numbing effect on your tongue.  Failing that wearing full screened in clothing works too but you look like a bee keeper whenever you go out

I've also heard about something called lemon thyme...although it kinda confuses me b/c you're supposed to walk on it for it to work...
