Title: Snowy not at Col Sam this morning
Post by: lovemypt on January 19, 2012, 11:03:59 AM
Hi

Just a quick note to say no Snowy owl at Col Sam this morning, but sure strong winds along shoreline, not much else moving as weather front is approaching

I didn't check everywhere, just at marina and on few points along south shore where rock piles may be more suitable...the dredging work in marina area will probably keep it away on weekdays as too much activity, but maybe it will return for the weekends..

I think they've been known to sit on the big building to the west in the past

..just in time for the off-leash dogs to chase it away.

The docks are the most reliable spot, but they can be virtually anywhere:  even on top of the smoke stack at the Power House (yes, I've seen the photo).  The shoreline rocks are worth a careful scan.  They can be virtually invisible there.

I saw the Snowy Wednesday morning on the docks.  A crew started working there that day and by the afternoon had flushed her off and away.  Dave was there Thursday.  I went for a walk again on Friday and no sightings either day.  Some friends were there Friday after me and had no luck either.  If she is still around, she's got a great hideout.

There was a lot of off-leash dogs on Friday morning.  Rather disappointing since there is an area made for them; but I guess it's not suiting for the dog owners.  I will stop here before I start on a rant.   :x

I was there today & yesterday in the afternoon.  No owl, shrike, or anything else out of the ordinary.

There are still 3 coots on the east side.

Mr. Shrike was eying me up last Wednesday while I was watching the Snowy.  I had this feeling eyes were upon me behind me and I got this before he flew off after we made eye contact.
