Title: White-winged Crossbills
Post by: Rob'in'To on January 30, 2012, 06:01:27 PM
I posted this in the Lambton Woods thread but thought it might be of interest to some who may not read the near weekly Lambton report.

At least 20 White-winged Crossbills flew in to the area I was standing near the two log benches on the main path where many people observe the winter birds and feed them on the rail around 12:30pm today.

It was a really cool experience.  The birds were quite loud, very active and I was in awe since this was a lifer for me.  I'm guessing I had maybe 2 minutes of watching them before they all flew off.

Nice find Rob......did you manage to get a few shots of them "hard-to-find birds"?  I heard they have been seen around but never seem to stay in one place long.... I didn't have any luck in my outing today,  to see anything except for regular winter birds around

No shots.  I was too in awe.  A little voice was telling me to take some pics but I NEEDED to see them with my own eyes for a good length first.

Ya, it's luck for those guys I think.  You just have to be where they are at that moment.  Forget following reports from a day earlier.
