Title: GBBC Day #1 - Lake Aquitaine
Post by: Bird Brain on February 17, 2012, 03:48:15 PM
Hi everyone.  Today, I was counting at Lake Aquitaine from 8:15am - 12:15pm.  Beautiful sunny weather!  After I came home, it clouded over, turned cold and snowy.

Total # of species:  14
Total # of birds: 252

Sighted:

Canada Goose
Mallard
Cooper's Hawk (imm.)
Ring-billed Gull
Rock Pigeon
Mourning Dove
Blue Jay
American Crow
Black-capped Chickadee
Red-breasted Nuthatch
American Robin
Northern Mockingbird
Northern Cardinal
House Sparrow

Highlights:

1.  Two Northern Mockingbirds! ... the larger one was going in & out of a nest.  At another location, discovered a second nest.  This is going to be an interesting Spring!

2.  Cooper's Hawk (imm.) ... what a beauty!  Flew right across the front of my face then landed on the dock.  I pointed the hawk out then got into an interesting conversation with a photographer named Lat.  We were both admiring the hawk's round, white-tipped tail.

3.  My favourite squirrel "White Nose" came running up then tapped on my toes, wanting a shelled peanut.
