Title: Rattray Marsh - Mississauga - Feb 18
Post by: thouc on February 18, 2012, 06:09:06 PM
Had a nice walk at Rattray Marsh around noon today. A few nice birds, Brown Creeper (First of Year for me), White-breasted Nuthatch, Hairy Woodpecker (FOY), Carolina Wren (FOY, heard only), small groups of Am. Goldfinch and Am. Robin, a few Chickadees and 2 Red-breasted Mergansers on the lake.

Also saw a Brown Creeper at Sam Smith's earlier this week.

The Carolina Wren must have been a treat.

Yeah, it was nice hearing it sing. Not really a sign of spring though as they tend to sing year around.

Your right thouc, the Carolina Wren that lives down the side of the bluffs at Rosetta McClain Gardens has been singing almost daily for a few years now!  August 2008 was when I first recorded it's call not knowing what bird it was at that time.  Other Carolina's have come into the area, I believe we had 3 at one time last year but this guy seems to be the only 'resident'.  He was calling out today while I was doing a GBBC at the park.  Beautiful loud clear voice for such a little bird.
