Title: Emerald Ash Borer @ Humber Arb

Hey, anybody who likes to visit the Humber Arboretum may want to take a break from it for the next bit.  

They have confirmed an invasion of the emerald ash borer in their forests and will be taking action rather quickly.

Not sure how many tress this will effect but there will be a number of people with power saws in the woods...  and most certainly a lack of wildlife.

I was there today.  There is a crew doing clean up of broken and hanging branches and surveying.  And the fine folk of the Arb have posted notice today on their Facebook page about this invasive species on their grounds.

I will update this post in the coming days/weeks.  Lets hope it's not that bad.

I am not good with tree IDs so I have no clue how many Ash trees are in the woods.

That's terrible. I was at Pelee a couple of weeks ago and they've taken all the ash trees down. It's a devastating sight.

We are heading to Pelee in May.

Hoping the number of Ash trees in the Arboretum isn't that big.  Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Thanks for posting this Rob. I was going to head out there soon but now I'll wait a while. It's the only place in Toronto where I've seen white winged crossbills.

Still not a lot of news for anybody interested.  I do know any tree work will be done on weekdays.

Anybody else care to add to this situation.  Please share here.

Hi Rob

I was there for a couple of hours today and pretty quiet in woods and lower field for birds. There was a class from the college teaching how to climb trees but they were at far south end of hardwoods. The college is not on March break and lots of students in and around area because of warm weather. There is a March break class for younger children and they were making a bit of a noise in lower field but not outside all the times so wasn't too bad.  

 They have cut a few trees by signs of piles around here and there, but otherwise looks the same

Your friend was not around today, must of not been sunny enough
