Title: Stumped
Post by: Joe on May 28, 2007, 11:35:48 PM
A pair of this bird used this nest box about 7 years ago, then nothing until a few days ago.  I didn't know what it was then (wasn't into birding), and I don't know now.  Too big for a flycatcher.  It's at least 7-8".  Vireo? Female Orchard Oriole?  It had a go at a squirrel today... if that behaviour helps.

Looks like a Great Crested Flycatcher to me.

Yes, definitely looks like Great Crested Flycatcher which is a cavity nesting species. Should be quite vocal also with a loud weep-weep-weep sound from high up in the trees.
