Title: Rouge Park, Scarborough
Post by: Bluffs Birder on March 22, 2012, 11:30:06 PM: I spent the better part of the day strolling along a few of the trails and the wetlands at Rouge Park and the following is what I saw (non-bird):

Butterflies
Mourning Cloak - 5
Eastern Comma - 1
Compton Tortoiseshell - 1

Moths
The Infant - 1

Dragonflies
Green Darner - 7

Frogs
Leopard Frog - x

Turtles
Midland Painted Turtle - x
Common Snapping Turtle - 1

Post by: Rob'in'To on March 23, 2012, 09:07:34 AM: I had three little white ones fluttering around the backyard yesterday. I saw them from the window. Those are "White Cabbage", "Cabbage Moths" or something? Angie got me a butterfly book, I better break it out again. :)

Hi Walter. I've never heard of this one before so looked it up on Google Images.

I had never seen or heard of one before this sighting either. It's a day-flying moth that will really have you fooled in to believing that it is a small butterfly.

That's amazing for this time of year to have 3 Cabbage Whites, great sighting! They're early like everything else!

I have some 'time off' (for good behavior?) tomorrow (Wednesday) and I would like to take a butterfly walk in Rouge Park but I have no idea where to go. I would love to meet you there but I have something to do before going so I don't know when I can get there. Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks.

No problem, I went to German Mills and since it became quite cloudy I decided to stay there. Lots of butterflies including tiger swallowtails, question marks, skippers and blues. I'm actually heading back there around noon today while the dames rockets are still in full bloom. I would still like to visit Rouge Park but I'll probably wait a few weeks (let me know when the milberts show up!) and we'll arrange a walk. Also would like to visit the Glendon forest (remember the checkerspots?). :)
