Title: A Birding Moment
Post by: Trillian Flummox on March 23, 2012, 10:37:33 PM
After a nasty virus had me down for the count all week (I missed all the beautiful weather   ), I needed a little nature walk to cheer me up today. Having heard great things about Lambton Woods I decided to give it a try. While I enjoyed the lovely trails, the woods were sadly very quiet - with the exception of the far far away calls of the Pileated Woodpeckers. Ready to quit, I suddenly found myself in the midst of a close thicket, with branches overhanging the trail. And honest to gods I was surrounded by the loveliest gathering of birds: a bluejay, a cardinal, 3 red-wings, 2 downies, a few chickadees and bunch of kinglets! Individually nothing exciting, but altogether in such a small area it was a treat. They didn't seem to care about me, especially the kinglets who kept flying close enough to touch. I wondered if there was a sudden explosion of some yummy bug population in that one spot that kept them all so busy. Then just for added cuteness a little chipmunk approached me hoping for a handout.

Nothing like a close encounter with Nature to heal what ails you.  :)
