Bird houses can end up hosting a variety of tenants. These Yellow Jackets moved into this house at the cottage a couple of summers ago.
No big deal.........until they decided the square footage inside wasn't enough.
I wouldn't have believed it myself had I not seen it.........Quite an incredible site as it progressed.

Perhaps they should be renamed. That is a pretty incredible series of pictures. What was the duration for that series (hours? days? weeks?)? Is it still on going? So much for picnics outside if its close by. Thanks for the sharing of pics.

It was over the span of about a month.
It made for a risky adventure if anyone wanted some firewood,
as this was over the door to the wood shed.
Unfortunately, soon after the last photo, something came along and destroyed
the hive, so I can't give any insight as to how far they would have gone.
As for, could it have still been going........no.
With Yellow Jackets, it's a one shot deal.
The nests are not re-used after the summer as most all of the wasps
die in the winter. The queens start fresh every year.
