Title: Toronto High Park Cherry Blossoms
Post by: Trillian Flummox on April 04, 2012, 10:48:41 PM
The High Park cherry blossoms are predicted to be in full bloom within 4-6 more (warm) days!  If you've never experienced this Japanese tradition of "Sakura Hanami", it's well worth the trip - but try to avoid the busy weekends! The grove of trees can be found behind the Grenadier Restaurant, on the hillside leading down to the pond.  Here's the link to the blossom watch:

"Try to avoid the busy weekends."
With the advent of social media a pleasant weekend and the cherry blossoms brings a flash mob.
If you must go on a weekend:
Do not drive.  (I know such advice is redundant for many people on this forum.)  Parking fines are $300+, and parking officials will be present.  (Some people treat the parking fine as the price of admission.)
Pack it in, pack it out (park crews cannot make their way through the traffic to collect all the garbage as it accumulates).
Smile!

I was there on Sunday early morning after the wood ducks but crowds kept them at a distance so best to get there early. There were lots of people but not too bad at parking lot and blossoms were still not at their best, I imagine next few days will bring them out if we get some sun
