Post by: Bella on June 05, 2007, 02:00:50 PM
Where can I view the list of threatened, endangered, or of special concern birds?
Thanks in advance.

The Canadian list is maintained by COSEWIC (http://www.cosewic.gc.ca/eng/sct0/rpt/dsp_booklet_e.htm).

The COSEWIC list is not the legal list in Canada.  Have a look at the SARA (Species At Risk Act)Registry if you want to see "officially" designated species at risk at the federal level.

As you can see, "endangered" is a matter of interpretation.  What scientists consider to be endangered  is not necessarily what politicians consider to be endangered.

I think they are most likely to agree when the designation has no potential for significant economic impact.  :(

(Being cute helps them to get on the list too, but it probably only works for mammals.)
