Title: Oshawa - Second Marsh - April 8
Post by: Pruss on April 09, 2012, 09:31:21 AM
Lovely morning walk at Second Marsh in Oshawa.  Observed the following species:
Tree Swallows
Northern Rough-winged Swallows
Common Mergansers
Canada Geese
Eastern Phoebe
Black Capped Chickadee
Brown Creeper
Dark Eyed Junco
Northern Flicker
Yellow Bellied Sap Sucker
Hairy Woodpecker
Golden Crowned Kinglet
Ruby Crowned Kinglet
RWBB
Am. Robin
Common Grackle
European Starling
Canada Goose
Mallard

There was also a sparrow that I had a lot of trouble identifying, predominantly red/rust back and coverts with red/rust striping on the breast, head was grey with what might have been some red/rust around the eye.  My light was bad, and my field-guide wasn't helping, and I'm still trying to sort out sparrows.  Thoughts?

Pat

All that red/rust sounds like Fox Sparrow. It's the right time for them now.
