Title: whippoorwill
Post by: Pat Hodgson on April 16, 2012, 09:47:40 AM
Wow.  Not what I expected for my next back yard bird, but a whippoorwill woke me up calling in the middle of the night last night.  #94 for the yard.

Wow, I envy you,  they are at the top of my "must see" list, but honestly, I'd be just as happy to hear one. Good for you.  :D

I hear them most at dusk...and then for some reason, if I wake up like 3 am in the summer....another bird I hear at really lonely times in night are those owls that sound like a horse.

Hi Axeman.  Eastern Screech Owls sound like a horse whinny.  :)

Heard a whippoorwill last night (May 2) in Dufferin Grove neighborhood (near Bloor St. And Ossington Ave) in Toronto. Never heard one in Toronto before - only on Georgian Bay north of Parry Sound. Very strange.
