Got quite the surprise today while visiting Rattray marsh and area this morning, Mom & Dad Pileated woodpecker were out in the open trees along the main path searching for snacks with their 2 new young offsprings. The young were flying but still having difficulties getting the right grip on trees and must not be out the nest very long. Good to see their able to find a spot to breed in this crowded park.
FYI- the water level in the lagoon in Rattray is very high right now and this has severely limited the number and types of shorebirds in the marsh, all of the mud flat is completely covered by water
