I don't know if anyone is still trying to see this bird but I spotted it this morning @ Thickson Point. Just to the west (25m) offthe point swimming with a small group of gadwalls and mallards. The sun was in the right position to highlight his brilliant red head otherwise I never would have seen him.
He took off to the west at around 9am and I didn't try to re-locate him after that.
Its a really striking bird. One that I was most happy to see again.
