We have fed blue jays peanuts over many years in our backyard. In the past, the closest they would get would be within a few feet (we would leave the peanut on the BBQ and then stand close by to watch them come in). They would even call for us, landing outside the window and occasionally scrabbling at the window.

A couple of weeks ago, we noticed a particularly bold blue jay that would linger on the BBQ and look at us before flying away with the peanut. I decided to see how bold it was, so I held a peanut in my hand over the BBQ and waited. It soon swooped in and took the peanut from my hand. Since then, it has regularly landed on our hands and even on my wife's shoulder to get peanuts. A couple of times it paused on my wife's hand before taking off. He's been a real treat to interact with.

Birding takes my mind off stuff and it adds good life to a tuff life. It also helps me forget about my spine pain and stress.  Laugh, eat, be merry.  Anybody with extra $ may send me some as It will permit me to travel.
