Today at about 4:00 PM a Great Blue Heron flew across  Seasons Road at Staines in Scarborough. There is a hydroline wetland area that cross under the road with small ponds and a wide creek area. I often see Great Blue Herons, waterfowl, trumpeter and mute swans, and Great Egrets in this area. But I have not seen a GBH this early before. Spring is here?

A GBH has overwintered on the Humber at Lambton Woods for the past 3 years.

Great blue herons  don't always migrate if they have open water and a food supply around they will stay. When I worked in the fish hatcheries we normally always had 8-10 during the summer and 3-4 in winter months around the properties

Thanks for comments....the wetlands I mentioned are completely frozen over now. Actually, the water dropped dramatically last year, not much water in them last fall. I was surprised to see the GBH. I did not know some do not migrate.
