On a quick (and cold) walk through Sam Smith Park this evening, I noticed that all three rafts have Red-necked Grebes nesting on them.  Hopefully they don't follow the typical pattern of previous years with nests being built and abandoned several times before finally being abandoned for good.

I noticed 2 of them today while at the festival.  I  hope they do well, I did notice the nesting rafts seem a little further out this year.

One pair, on the raft immediately east of the boats, did raise a pair of young eventually last year.

On Saturday I heard there were 3 eggs on the nest closest to last year's successful nest.  This evening, I saw the "changing of the guard" at the most southerly nest and saw 2 eggs.

So far all the nests are looking good!
