Odd looking male Mallard

The male has a mottled colouring of the body with a bunch of white feathers - perhaps some "Domestic" lineage ?? Any thoughts?

Hard to see in this image but maybe just a mallard that has not reached maturity or is in a molt.

Thanks Paul - when I first saw this chap from my car I was pretty sure the feathers were white - As I'm heading back there tomorrow I'll see if I can get a clearer picture.
