14 + fresh Monarchs out TTP between the gate and Triangle Pond on Saturday evening. Also several Viceroy, Orange Sulphur, Red Admiral and Mourning Cloak, and hundreds of Cabbage White. The Trumpeter swan cygnets are growing v. large! Triangle Pond was busy - a Great Blue Heron, 4 Wood Duck, 2 Mallard, several Kingbirds, at least 5 Spotted Sandpiper and a skulking Green Heron working the lily pads. Painted turtles basking on the logs. The week before in Embayment A there was a small flock of Least and Semi-palmated Sandpipers, plus one Solitary, and a Great Egret lurking in the reeds. Always, Kingfishers making their presence known as they dove for fish. This afternoon at ABB, one very torn, worn Monarch, two Great Egret fishing and strolling along the rocks, more Kingfishers clattering away; a warbling Warbling Vireo, White-breasted Nuthatch and all sorts of Cabbage White butterflies, plus a few Summer Azure. A nice patch of Jewelweed in the usual spot but no Hummingbirds sadly.
