Since my daughter started McMaster University last Sept, I have made a few trips to Hamilton and back. Every time on my way back from Hamilton on the south side of east-bound Hwy407, just before Britania road exit (see the link below), between O'Harra Park and 407, I see a patch of marsh land with lots of birds in it. I always wondered about this place. This week on Monday on my way back, since the road was empty, I sopped my car by the shoulder and peered through the window. Lo and behold - I saw at least 6 shorebirds besides a slew of Egrets and other water birds. My knowledge on shorebirds is very limited, I couldn't tell what they were. I didn't want to linger there too  long. This could be a great place for shorebird watching provided there's a safe access to this area. Not sure if anybody else noticed this area and found a safer way than watching from the shoulder of the highway. It would be a nice PR move from 407's part if they can provide a trail and a platform to watch the birds from.

I've known about this spot for a long time, and It's great for shorebirds (I've sometimes seen well over a hundred while driving by - and that is only the large visible stuff like yellowlegs, killdeer and Pluvialis plovers), but I've never wanted to stop on the highway and there is no way I can tell to see in otherwise without hopping fences. If access was possible this would be, no question, the best spot in the GTA for shorebirds when water levels are right)
I've thought a few times in the past year about talking to the 407 about a trail and viewing platform coming from ninth line, but never actually done anything more about it.

I have seen this spot also on my way to and especially from Hamilton.  It does seem like an intriguing spot.  But yeah safety concerns are rather high.
