A beautiful big white Snowy Owl was perched on one side of one wharf and on the opposite side of the other wharf was a heavily barred dark Snowy Owl.
An American Kestrel and a Northern Shrike were together in a large tree near the marina until the Kestrel flew off to the pole on Whimbrel Point. A big beaver was out on the shore for a few seconds until it saw me and vanished. Two coyotes crossed the ice and came out along the trail by the gazebo. One was very very dark with a large radio collar/tracking device of some sort on its neck. The other is lame in the right fore paw and was there a few weeks ago briefly, with a gorgeous golden one that was hunting along the trail. It was lame then as well. So - three coyotes that I've seen. No idea if someone should be notified about the tracking device or about the lame one - TWC? All looked very healthy.
Went to Rotary and Lumsden parks to look for the Harlequin but couldn't spot it. I wonder if it is still around?
Not a chickadee anywhere! All sorts of ducks though.
Spectacular sundog on the way home - what a gorgeous sight to see a rainbow all around the sun, thanks to this real winter weather we are having.

What wonderful sightings you've had Nana.  Haven't been at Sam's for a bit - heard walking is almost impossible because of the ice.  True ?

I wouldn't be able to go to any of the local parks right now, if it wasn't for the fabulous 'icers' that I pull over the soles of my shoes. Lee Valley sells them (as do other places - with various types.. Yak Trax, etc). As a result I have no problem walking even on sheet ice which makes winter rambles wonderful. I also take along a collapsible hiking pole. There is a layer of snow over the ice pretty much everywhere in the park and that helps a bit too but it does hide the lethal ice below so take care!

I saw the immature snowy owl today at Sam Smith. With sunny skies I could see it very well - on the wharf.

BTW, the walking is fine, it was not slippery at all walking around in regular winter boots. The snow made a good layer of traction.
