The juvenile Red Knot discovered yesterday by David Pryor was still there this morning. When going down to the reservoir from the Wild Water Kingdom parking lot, turn right (south) and walk until you reach the mudflat forming a spit between the river and a bay. Boots recommended. The Red Knot was in the river in that area. It, together with the other shorebirds, were spooked by two Peregrine Falcons, but the Red Knot returned to the same spot after a while when the Peregrines had left.

Other notable birds: 2 Great Egret, 5 Green-winged Teal, 1 Baird's Sandpiper, 1 Semipalmated Sandpiper, 10 Lesser Yellowlegs, 7 Greater Yellowlegs, 1 Palm Warbler, 1 Merlin, 1 Sharp-sinned Hawk.

Thank you very much for the info. I went there around 11 this morning. Though the sky was heavily overcast I managed to get a few shots of the bird - a lifer for me. I didn't see the Baird's, there were plenty of Lesser and Greater Yellowlegs. A juvenile Bald Eagle flew by overhead, that got the Egrets and gulls excited.

1. Red Knot with Yellowlegs on the right for comparison. Note the thicker base of the bill in the Red Knot.

2. On its own.

Congrats on the lifer!

The Baird's was further up the river, hiding in the vegetation and when flushed flew into the vegetation again. It slowly came out to the water's edge and stood completely still there. This was soon after the Peregrines visited, so it was probably still hesistant to come out inte the open and feed.
