I'm thinking Eastern Comma.
Looking for expert opinion.

I would say it looks more like a Question Mark.  Do you have a photo of the closed wing?

No I do not have a closed wing shot.
I'll keep that in mind in future.

Based on this view, I think it is more likely a Question Mark.  Eastern Commas have a row of 3 dark spots going cross-body on the front wing.  Question Marks have 4.  Admittedly the 4th spot on this butterfly is a bit less distinct, so I am not 100%.

All very confusing, but thanks for getting my dots in a line.
Let's call it an indistinct Eastern Comma with a Question mark.
I have now entered ... the twilight zone.

Here is an under-wing shot of a butterfly similar in appearance to
an Eastern Comma. Is that what this is?

I don't think that this is a Wood Satyr.

I believe this is a White Admiral.

The first one is an Eastern Comma.  Note the white mark on the underside, looks like a comma.  If there was an additional white spot, it would be a Question Mark, named after the punctuation sign.

The second is a Common Wood-Nymph, which has 2 eye spots on the fore wing, and can have up to 6 eye spots on the hind wing underside.  The Little Wood-Satyr, has lines across the wing on the underside.

The third and fourth is White Admiral.
