Last Sunday (July 15) I had a report of a male hummingbird at TBG and a few minutes later my son and I spotted him near the greenhouse north of the main gardens. He comes to feed on crocosmia, a bright red flower which grows on both sides of the path beside the greenhouse. If necessary, Google "crocosmia lucifer" to find out what it looks like.

The hummer season is really in full swing; just after sunrise I had four hummers around the feeder at the same time, a male and 3 females and/or fledglings. It's quieter now but I still have a steady stream coming in at about one minute intervals. Unfortunately, a large german wasp has taken over the feeder and the hummers are being chased away - time to shoot some video and get rid of the intruder! :)
