We watched a raptor invade the robin's nest outside our window yesterday. All three robin chicks are now gone
The predator had the colouring of a black-crowned night heron (we know it wasn't a heron, but the colouring was the same), with a white chest and blue wings and back. Spotted or striped under the tail (and possibly the wings) and large, bulging eyes.
We're wondering if it was a peregrine falcon, but it definitely did not have the 'helmet' markings going around its eyes. The colouring stopped above its eyes. It was about the size of a raven. Sorry about the lame description, but it was all very horrible to watch.
Can you help with the identification?
