Hey! We spent three or more weeks at our place in Tiny returning home today on the hottest day of the year so far. Big mistake! The kid has things to do and we had some bills to pay. >:(
It is a kids weekend coming up and we are not welcome in our own place ??? .
While sitting on the deck with the boss/wife, we clearly hear a Mimic. It is difficult to find and I grabbed the camera hoping to capture an image. Nope, I followed the sound for close to 20 minutes at tree top level only to get three quick views of what appeared to be a Brown Thrasher. I have pics of one from here before(that would take some digging). It certainly was not a Catbird or a Mocking Bird.

I have been seeing Gray Catbirds here the whole month of June. Yesterday while walking home on Tiny Beaches road there was a Catbird sitting on a gate of a neighbours fence.
p.s in the link below, an account I cannot access there is a Brown Thrasher on a tree next door

lol....our kid asked recently when we were going to retire up to cottage so she could have the house....I haven't slept a night since  :o ...one eye open....I told her we'd retire sooner if she didn't go to university....

Didn't realize BT's were mimics....laughing at the thought of you following the sound  ;D

Weird how some years, some birds are prominent....I had a summer with a pair of BT's....saw them daily....I think they nested in the cedars.

Axeman! Yep, they nest in Thickets/Cedars here near the beach, lots of that around. A quote directly from Cornell Birds...they will call from the top of the canopy in summer. This is what this elusive bird was doing. I was surprised as well.. The only other bird that I've seen at the top of these giant Oak trees is/are the occasional Great Crested Flycatcher and tiny little noisy Pine Warblers.
It is a very mixed forested area..

We get to go back  just before the lunacy of the the long weekend.
Naptser :)

Oh I get to go back on Wednesday to Sunday...and then Wednesday to Sunday.....guests for the weekend so I get to go back a day early to tidy up groceries etc....and then cater....joy oh bliss....I read an article once years ago in Cottage Life magazine...it was about scoring another invite to the cottage and gave a list (with humour) of how to be the type of guest people want.....I should get a copy and leave it out on the coffee table lol.

Are you seeing fireflies in Tiny? I was up in Parry Sound over the weekend and didn't see any but they're out here at home.

Yesterday afternoon I spotted a Brown Thrasher across the lane and then two more following the first.
Last evening just before 8 pm I was on the Deck watching the Jays game when I heard a harsh check, check call. I spotted the birds at the top of the Cedar behind the house. I took me a few minutes to find a battery for the camera by then it was too dark to get a good image. There were two Brown Thrashers moving about making a racket.  I viewed the dark images and you can see the pattern on the breast and the Long tail.
Napper at the beach.
Humming bird this morning at 9:30 and no camera of course.
