Here in western Pickering the single (or pair) of A.tree sparrow has not visited the feeder for over a week and even the W.T. sparrow has been absent, but the juncos remain abundant in the late-morning, as opposed to their previous crepuscular habit. The cardinal pair continue to visit (more briefly than before) when the morning light is barely awake enough to reveal them. The female still behaves like the alpha bird. Still no song sparrow to be seen. eBird reported an Evening grosbeak at Rosetta McClain Gardens (Scarborough) on the 28th, and then just north of there yesterday. It's odd because EG usually forage in flocks, like waxwings. Also, no finches have visited the feeder in weeks, although I sometimes hear finches when I'm walking the southern section of the street. Apparently they eschew the northern section of the street and therefore miss-out on the feed. Meteorological spring sounds good and in less than a couple of weeks clocks spring forward but I suspect I will still not manage a spring in my step because decorative spring may not unfold until late-April if the Farmer's Almanac is to be awarded credibility on this occasion.
