At 7 a.m. it already felt like it was going to become a hot day. A slight breeze at the lake shore but otherwise close to calm in the meadow where the mosquitoes dwell. This time I brought a can of OFF but it didn't help because the nozzle was clogged and nothing came out of the can no matter how loud and vociferous I became. Last time I forgot to bring the can with me into the woods. I left it in the car. This time I put the can in my pocket only to discover the meaning of useless. You can always tell a loser. Between 7 o'clock and 8 o'clock there was bird song all around me. Yellow warblers and flycatcher were flitting in and out, blossom laden bushes were twitching because of orioles, even a loon flew over just for an added diversion. In the woods it was dead quiet after 8:30. Even the thrushes stopped calling.
